Today was my son’s first day of 1st Grade. I can’t describe my feelings as I was dropping him off today.  As a parent, you are quickly amazed how fast time passes, how fast they grow.  You can only hope you have done your job so they are equipped with the tools needed for them to succeed.

This morning, as we were preparing to leave the house, I asked him: “Son, how do you feel about today.. your 1st day of 1st grade!”  He looked at me with his big brown eyes full of light and said… “Dad, I am very excited but a little nervous”.  I thought that was a great response.

It reminded me of a question my coach John Maxwell asked me…

When was the last time you did something for the first time?

Frankly, I had no idea how to answer the question.  He saw right through me… I really couldn’t remember as it had been a very, very long time since I did something for the first time.  But what I did remember was the feeling… very excited, but a little nervous.

Just like what my son felt today.

A lot of times we let that tiny amount of nervousness overcome the very excited feeling, so we don’t do it.

We want it, we think about it, we dream it – but yet that ounce of insecurity takes over.  It’s ok, it happens to all of us.

My son was courageous today.  He entered his classroom, said hello to his teacher and sat in his chair ready to take on the day.

So now I ask you…

When was the last time you did something for the first time?

The irony is that this is my first post in this website.  So today I can say that I did something for the first time.  I am a little nervous, but very excited for what will come.

I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and let the magic happen.  I promise that If you do, you will experience something remarkable.  I don’t want to spoil the feeling, but you will be glad you did.

Share your story with me.  I would love to hear it.

Take care for now,

Jose
